Kings Landing

Game Of Thrones TV Series
Dubrovnik, Croatia

Dubrovnik, Croatia, was transformed into King’s Landing for much of Game of Thrones, with its Old Town, fortresses, and coastal vistas serving as iconic filming sites. Visitors can easily explore these locations independently or via guided tours, many of which offer affiliate programs for partnership.

Main Filming Locations for King’s Landing

Fort Lovrijenac (St. Lawrence Fortress): Served as the Red Keep. Overlooks the sea just outside the Old Town’s western wall and is open to visitors for a small entrance fee.

Dubrovnik City Walls: The entire perimeter of Old Town appears in scenes involving King’s Landing’s defenses, offering panoramic views over Dubrovnik and the Adriatic.

Jesuit Staircase: Near Saint Ignatius Church, this is the setting for Cersei’s unforgettable “Walk of Shame” scene. It’s in the Old Town and accessible by foot.

Pile Gate and Pile Harbour: The main entrance and harbor for the Old Town, featured in riot scenes, departures, and as King’s Landing’s harbor.

Dubrovnik West Harbour: The Blackwater Bay scenes, including naval battles and dramatic arrivals, were filmed here. It’s adjacent to the Old Town and easily visited.

Gradac Park: Used for Joffrey’s wedding feast (“The Purple Wedding”). Offers green space with sea and city views just above the Old Town.

Minčeta Tower: Topped the city walls and used for exterior shots of King’s Landing as well as the House of the Undying.

Trsteno Arboretum: Represented the Red Keep’s gardens, located outside Dubrovnik and accessible by car or shuttle.

How to Visit

All central filming sites are within or around Dubrovnik Old Town, making self-guided exploration on foot very easy. City walls require a ticket; most other spots are public access.

Combine your visit by walking the city walls, visiting forts, and exploring market squares and harbors to replicate the King’s Landing experience.

Guided Game of Thrones tours by local operators provide in-depth background, film anecdotes, and scene reenactments. They are available as walking tours, by boat, or even with professional actors.

Additional Tips

Go early in the day or late afternoon for smaller crowds, especially in peak season.

Wear comfortable walking shoes; Old Town features stairs and cobbled streets.

The Island of Lokrum, just off the coast, also appears in Game of Thrones as Qarth and can be visited by a quick ferry ride.

For a full experience, some tours include professional photography at sites used in filming.
